My Journey As A Home Chef: The Beginning

So I find it pretty ironic that my name is Stella Cook.....because my last name doesn't fit my abilities in the kitchen.  This is sad to say since I am quickly approaching the age of 50.  Now don't get me wrong because I do cook for my family but it is pretty much just the basics.  You know mac and cheese, spaghetti, hamburgers and hot dogs, a few casseroles and crock pot meals, and pretty much mostly things that are from a box.   Well this summer I decided to go on a journey with my 8 year old daughter and step out of my comfort zone and try to learn to cook more than just....dinners from a box....lol!   I am a teacher and just started summer break a few weeks ago so I have some time on my hands.  Here is day 1 of our journey:

About a week ago I  kept seeing these adds for Home Chef.  I was intrigued and did some reading about it.  I found an awesome discount code and thought I would give it a try.  It is a home cooking subscription and they send you the recipes and ingredients for your selected meals each week.  It is really easy to sign up and you get to choose your meals from several different options.  They pick your meals for the upcoming week but you have the ability to go in and change to different meal options.  You can skip weeks, put your account on hold, and easily cancel your subscription if you are not satisfied.  You can also view the recipes online.  Since it was so easy and with my discount I got 2  meals for 2 people for just under 20 bucks, I thought I would give it a try.  I set up our first delivery Wednesday, July 6th.

Aaliyah and I just could not wait to begin our journey so......This past Monday I decided to start this journey by letting my daughter Aaliyah choose and cook the meal with my supervision.  At her last school book fair, I purchased her this book (you can click on the pic for more info and pricing:

Kids Slow Cooker Cookbook

This kids cookbook has so many yummy recipes to choose from.   I don't eat chili but my daughter and husband both love it and this cookbook had just the thing:  Chunky Chili, so Chili it was.  This day I just supervised and let my daughter go at it.  She got everything in the crock pot gave it a stir and we let the Chili slow cook for most of the day.  The house smelled delicious and Aaliyah could not wait for her dad to get home so that they could try it.  Well when he got home the scooped up some hot steamy chili and it was a hit!  Not bad for day 1 of our adventure......then we were just waiting for our first Home Chef box to arrive......stay tuned for day 2 of our cooking adventure!
